What’s on the Toolbar?

September 22, 2020

The Toolbar is pretty standard and you can easily figure out what each icon does, but there are a couple icons that may need a little explaining.

There are actually two lines of icons on the Toolbar. To keep it simple, the first line has the most used icons.

The last icon on the first line is the icon you click to show the second line.

My suggestion is to type in all your text and then go back and add the formatting. Highlight the text and then click on the icon or drop down you want.

The Paragraph drop down box is where you choose how your text looks. Paragraph is just the normal font used for posts and pages. You can use the heading settings other things besides headings.

B and I are bold and italic.

The next two are to insert a bullet list or a numbered list.

  • First on a bullet list
  • Second on a bullet list
  • Third on a bullet list
  1. First on a number list
  2. Second on a number list
  3. Third on a number list

Next is quote, what it does to highlight a quote depends on your theme.

And then comes Left justify, Center justify, and then Right justify.

Link is next. Highlight the text or picture you want to be a link. A box will appear. Copy or type the link into the box, then CLICK ON THE ARROW to accept the link. If you don’t click on the arrow, the link won’t work.

The next icon with a bar, dotted line, and bar is the “Read More” break. You probably have seen these on website where they show a paragraph or two and then you have to click on “Read More” to see the rest of the post.

On the second line:

Strike through – puts a line through the text

Then is horizontal line, which may or may not show up, depending you your theme.

Next is text color

The icon that looks like a briefcase with a T on it is very handy if you are copying text from another source (like Word). When you paste that text it can come with some of its own formatting and not look good. So what you do is, click on the briefcase AND THEN paste your copy. It will then come in formatted as Paragraph.

Next icon looks like an eraser and it clears away formatting. If you forget to click on the briefcase before you paste in copy and it looks different from the Paragraph format, then you can highlight the text and click on the eraser. That will put the text into Paragraph format.

The Ω icon is for adding special characters. When you click on it, you will get a box with the different symbols available. Just click on the one and it will be added where your cursor is.

The next icon increases the indent from the left and the next increases the indent from the right.

Next is Undo, and then Redo if you make mistakes.

The question mark in the circle will show you a list of shortcuts you can use instead of the icons.
