If you look on some of your favorite blogs, you will probably see a small notice that says somethings like: “Some links are affiliate links which means I receive a small fee if you purchase something from that link. The fee is not added to your purchase price.” Often this will be on a “resources” page that describes all the products and services the blogger uses herself or maybe at the bottom of the home page.
Well now, this podcast from Brian Clark of Copyblogger informs me that the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) doesn’t consider one statement on a website to be enough. Every blog post that contains an affiliate link should have a notice about affiliate links. Tweets and Facebook posts should also have the notice!
Will the FTC really find your blog and come after you if you don’t have a notice every single place they think you should? Maybe not. But why take the chance. Listen to the podcast and decide for yourself.
